Ikea Mirror Redo

Sometimes I buy something and know just where it is going to go and sometimes I just buy it cause I can't pass it up. This was one of those times. I bought 3 Ikea mirrors because they were cheap and I thought they might work. But when I got them home I just could not find a place for them, they seemed all wrong every where I tried. So one year later I decided it was time to alter them.
I started out with this (I had given it a light sand):

Then I taped the mirror so I could spray paint it.

Now it is pretty and white, an improvement already. I used Krylon Fusion in Dover White, I found it at Walmart. It is a really nice off white, not bright white or cream.

Then I taped off the lines with 1 1/2 inch painters tape with a 1 1/2 inch space in between.

Then I painted the mirror with acrylic craft paint. I used Martha Stewart craft paint in Arrowhead.
Make sure to remove the tape while the paint is still wet. When I waited for it to dry the lines were not as crisp since it pulled some of the gray paint up.

When I was done this is how they looked. I liked it but did not love it. It was too crisp and straight or something. So I decided to sand them, can't hurt now.

It is hard to tell the difference in the picture, but the gray is softer and I like the sanded edges. It really softens them up. Be careful sanding around the mirror. I was not careful enough and I scratched the mirror on my first one, oops.

Here is a better close up of the edges and some of the paint. Much better!

The picture does not show as well,
but it looks much softer than before.

So if you have something that is just not quite right grab some paint you just might love it in the end.
Have a great day!

  5. These turned out wonderful. Nothing like a bold stripe in the classic black and white. Thank you so much for sharing your idea at Life Inspired and Congrats on the feature.
