DIY Abstract Art

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Ours was mostly laid back and not nearly as productive as I had planned. I did finish this art work I had been wanting to try for a while though. Dana at House Tweaking did the most beautiful art work and I have been wanting to give it a try. My piece is smaller than hers so I did it a little different. I also did not have exactly the same paint as her but I am SO pleased with the results.

DIY Abstract Art - the colored door

I used Martha Stewart craft paints. Metallic gold, pearl mother of pearl and metallic light gold.

I started with a canvas that was 2ft by 3ft and painted the whole canvas in Sherwin Williams Alabaster in a flat finish. Then I taped off the area on the canvas, I changed the bottom at the last minute. I measured a little just to get the V as close to the middle as I could get and I measured the space between the lines so they were close. I didn't need it to be perfect, but I know myself and it could not be way off or it would have bothered me.

I used a 2" angled brush and dry brushed the paint on so it was not a solid color. I just put a very small amount of paint on my brush and brushed from the middle of the V up.

I love seeing the brush stokes, it adds so much texture and movement.

I am not sure if this it the final place this piece will land but I love looking at it. It is in my bedroom right now but I don't spend much time in there so I might need to find a place downstairs where I can see it more often.

My bedroom is always the last place I decorate, maybe I should focus more on that room,  I just don't spend that much time in there. At least awake.

Do you spend much time decorating your master bedroom? Or do you focus on other areas first? Have you tried any art yourself? Usually I try to make something but I always see the flaws and have a hard time loving it. I can't believe I like it this time. Sometimes simple is the best way to go.

Have a wonderful Monday!

  9. Very nice! One of the projects I'm looking forward on doing soon will be to paint geometric designs on canvas, and then hang them in my dining room. :)
