Sweater Vase

I had such a wonderful weekend! Lots of family time on Saturday and shopping with girlfriends on Sunday. Just loving the warm days and cool nights.

I have been working to decorate my laundry/mud room and I can find a rug but then no fabric or fabric but then no rug. This is why I usually give up and rooms stay unfinished. For. Years. But not this time I am going to keep looking until I find something, and hopefully I find something before Christmas when I get to busy to hunt for fabric and rugs. Does that ever happen to you? Where  you find half the decor you need. Usually I am adding things to a room that is half finished. This is the first time I am starting from scratch and trying to pick out the paint, fabric and rug all before I get started. We will see how this goes.

Here is a quick little project I have been meaning to do since last fall.  It looks so cozy and perfect for this time of year. Especially with my velvet pumpkin, Here is a tutorial.

sweater vase - the colored door

I was at my local thrift store and found a sweater for $4 and two glass jars totaling $1.60. Gotta love a project that totals $5.60.

1) I started out by slipping the vase into the sleeve of the sweater and cut it with an extra inch at the bottom. 2) I tied a knot in my string and threaded it through the sweater then tied them together to really secure the string in place. 3) I did a running stitch along the bottom. 4) Then pulled the string to gather the sweater around the bottom of the vase.

I pulled it tight, then using the short string from the beginning and the long string you just finished with, tie the two strings together to secure it.

I found that if you left a hole exposing some of the glass (like above) on the bottom is would sit better on the shelf. the first one I covered the whole bottom with the sweater and it is hard to get it to sit level.

I just love how they turned out and if I ever want to change the sweater or use the vases for something else they just slip off. Perfect fall and winter decor. Now you just need to head out to your local thrift shop and find the perfect sweater to dress your vases with.

Have a wonderful day and as always please let me know if you have any questions.
